Last week, Torrance hosted the 58th annual Armed Forces Day Parade, a celebration of those who currently serve in our Nation’s armed forces. The honored service this year was the Air Force and as an Air Force Veteran, it was such an honor to Chair the Armed Forces Day Parade Committee.
Having last worn my uniform in 2003, it was also an honor to don it once again in support of this event (surprisingly, no alterations were needed even though it was fitted to me in 1999).
We are so fortunate to be one of only three cities in the country that has an Armed Forces Day parade sanctioned by the Pentagon. I hope you enjoyed the parade, but if you didn’t get a chance to see it, here are some of the highlights:
As we enter Memorial Day Weekend, please remember the reason for the holiday: honoring those who have paid the ultimate price while serving our Nation. On Monday, May 29th, 2017, at 2:00 PM, the Torrance Historical Society will conduct a memorial service for Torrance service personnel who gave their lives. The program will take place on the Memorial Plaza at the corner of Torrance Blvd. and Maple Ave., and will include the reading of the 146 Names on the Wall.
