It’s that time of year again- the 57th annual Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade is tomorrow, Saturday the 21st at 1:30pm. This year’s honored branch of service is the Army.
If you can’t make it to the parade (are you sure you want to miss the Golden Knights Skydiving Team?), there are more events planned, including the 1st annual Armed Forces Day 5k run/walk. Click here for a full list of events
In other news, we (the Torrance City Council) adopted a new budget this past week. After receiving public feedback at two separate Council meetings, we passed a balanced budget that includes funding for things such as:
- Historic Preservation
- A View Ordinance in the Hillside Overlay
- Support for the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation
- Street Maintenance
- A return of the free Concerts in the Park
- Replacement of 3 fire engines

While we’ve made tremendous progress in fixing our roads over the past couple of years, I would have preferred to see (and I did advocate for) more funding to further this objective. Overall, I think our budget is a good one, especially considering the millions in lost revenues attributable to the refinery operating at reduced capacity for the entire year. The next budget is projected to include additional revenues now that the refinery is back online and as a result of increased sales taxes from the Del Amo Fashion Center.
Thanks for listening and I hope to see you at the parade tomorrow. I’ll be waving from the Tesla Model S!
