Today, I had the pleasure of attending a groundbreaking event (literally) for Torrance with Governor Brown and other regional elected officials - the kick-off of our long planned transit center located at 208th and Crenshaw! This new transit center will be a hub for the region and provide bus and light rail service, reducing congestion on our crowded streets.
Yes, you read that correctly- light rail in Torrance. We have received word that due to the efforts of Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, County Supervisor Janice Hahn, and Torrance elected officials and staff, we have secured funding to bring the green line to Torrance by 2028, nearly 20 years earlier than previously planned. This funding was secured from SB1 (aka the gas tax) funds and is guaranteed so long as SB1 is not repealed in the November election. As a sidenote, voting Yes on Prop 69 on June 5th guarantees that any revenue collected by SB1 can ONLY be used for road and transit purposes.
I'm very excited that we will finally be getting a rail line to connect to LAX, downtown, and the greater LA area after decades of waiting.
