In case you missed it, I was sworn in for my second term on the City Council at Tuesday night’s meeting (click here to see the final election results). I want to thank you again for your support throughout my re-election. During my comments I expressed that I now find myself in the unusual position of still being the youngest member of the Council, but now also the most senior Councilmember. As such, I renewed my commitment to the City, its residents, the newly elected Councilmembers in helping them to acclimate to their duties, and to the Council as a whole in bringing people together to move the City forward.
Holding true to my campaign promises of working to bring technology businesses to Torrance, I also introduced two Council orals and gained concurrence from my colleagues to begin work on them. They are:
- Understanding that there are many different components involved in attracting tech businesses, staff will explore the formation of a technology advisory group to study and recommend best practices for Torrance to implement
- Realizing that providing an appropriately educated workforce is key to attracting tech businesses, staff will report on groups or committees that currently work with education partners (SoCal ROC, El Camino College). This will allow us to identify any gaps in our efforts with the possibility to create a stakeholder committee tasked with strengthening our educational efforts.
In the coming months and years, I will continue to keep you appraised of the progress on these efforts and any other important issues facing our City. I look forward to working with you and please feel free to call on me at any time if there's anything I can do to help.
